There are three types of meteorites: iron meteorites, stone meteorites and iron/stone meteorites. The first group appeals most to the imagination because they are often beautifully shaped, have a clear metallic shine and are very heavy.

The fall of the Nantan meteorite was observed in May 1516 and is estimated at 9000 kg in total. The stray field of the meteorites was about 8 km wide and 26 km long.

The composition is approximately 95% iron plus nickel. If you saw and etch this material, the special structure can be seen known as the "figures of Widmanstätten" with which you can distinguish extraterrestrial iron from earth iron.

The estimated age of these meteorites is equal to that of the earth; approximately 4.6 billion years old!
